Recently, it’s been brought to our attention that some hamper items distributed across Sydney, NSW have passed their “BEST BEFORE DATE”, which can mean to some of you that the items are no longer proper for consume, however, according to Food Standards Australia New Zealand, “Most foods have a best before date. You can still eat foods for a while after the best before date as they should be safe but they may have lost some quality. Foods that have a best before date can legally be sold after that date provided the food is fit for human consumption.”.
We understand that for some, consuming the food may not seem the right thing to do. In that case, we are asking that, if you have received a hamper with any items that have past their “BEST BEFORE DATE”, please do not throw them away. Alternatively, we suggest you to pass these items along to someone else in need.
It is important to highlight however, that “BEST BEFORE DATE” differs from “USE BY DATE”, being the latter consider improper for consumption if expired.
